"Call Before You Dig" Iowa One Call 1-800-292-8989

Every spring as the weather turns warm, we all head outdoors with spring fever! It's time to plant a new tree, put in some flowers, replace fence posts or dig footings for a new shed or garage.

And every spring, the calls come pouring in to the utility companies to report trouble. Telephone and Cable TV lines, city water lines, electrical service and fiber optic cable all hide neatly underground. Not only do utility companies bury services in the streets and roads, but many also have services underground across lawns and fields.

Cutting a phone line or cable TV line definitely causes you (your neighbors, and sometimes whole neighborhoods!) an inconvenience, and leaves you with a very costly repair bill. However, cutting a gas or electrical line could be deadly

CALL Before You Dig. It's the law. You need to contact Iowa One Call at least 48 hours prior to any digging. This is a FREE service. They will contact the utility companies to have cables and services located and flagged. If you do not call for a locate and your digging results in disrupted service you can be fined and charged for the repair work.
